Add a surface, pick a hinge, and call it a day. **Gravity may have a few notes.** The **weight of the finished countertop** plays a big role in how a counterbalance system needs to perform. Guess too low, and the countertop can feel heavier than intended. Guess too high, and lowering it can become the problem. Getting those numbers right starts before you select a **folding countertop hinge**. The countertop material matters, but **everything attached to it** needs to make it into the calculation, too. That little bit of homework upfront can save you from choosing a **counterbalance system that doesn’t match the finished application**. A little guesswork can cause a pretty big mismatch when selecting a counterbalance system. If the weight is off, the system can provide too little or too much force for the folding countertop it’s supposed to move. ### What Happens if You Underestimate the Weight?
